From 1133 to 1803 the Clarholz monastery was a provost of the Premonstratensians. In the border region of the dioceses of Münster, Osnabrück and Paderborn, the monastery formed a religious center with a rich culture and importance for the local economy. The monastery museum is open from the beginning of June to mid-October on Sundays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is always worthwhile to take a lap over the extensive grounds with the large garden and take a look at the St. Laurentius Church.

The Clarholz Abbey, usually called Clarholz Monastery, is located in the municipality of Herzebrock-Clarholz in the Gütersloh district in North Rhine-Westphalia. Clarholz Abbey was a Premonstratensian provost between 1133 and the secularization in 1803. For 670 years it was a religious center, a place of culture and a not insignificant economic factor in the border region of the dioceses of Münster, Osnabrück and Paderborn. In the Middle Ages it maintained economic and spiritual relations in the country of Vollenhove on the Zuiderzee (Diocese of Utrecht) until the sale of its goods there in 1549.
In the 19th century it became the castle of the princes of Bentheim-Tecklenburg.
