The only remaining moated castle in eastern Switzerland. There is a very nice restaurant integrated into it. Hagenwil Castle was first mentioned in 1264 in connection with the knight Rudolf von Hagenwil. During the following centuries, various families owned the castle as a fief. During this time it was not spared from looting and devastation. In 1684, the St. Gallen Monastery took over the castle under its own administration.
