    Update:

It's such a shame, but this restaurant has been closed for good for some time now.

A stone's throw from the Altenberg Tower is the village of Hinterbüchelberg. There you'll find the Gasthaus Krone (krone-kohler.de). You can enjoy delicious food here, including a cozy beer garden in the summer, and the beer is delicious! Closed on Tuesdays!

The construction was partially funded by donations. Steps and steel girders bear the names of donors. For the ascent, a small contribution is requested in a collection box at the bottom of the stairs to finance the upkeep (March 2021: adults 1 €, families 2 €).

So a trip here is definitely worth it. The view from the tower is gigantic in "farsighted weather". For cyclists, the approach to the parking lot from the direction of Hinterbüchelberg is a bit dusty in dry weather and a lot of traffic by car. These are gravel roads that can also be driven by car. :-) And that's really dusting properly.
