Hindley's cross is reminiscent of the death of a young girl from the nearby Dumberghof, romantically framed by tall ash trees and chestnuts. It was founded by Bernhard Hindahl in 1886. The adjoining forest area bears the designation "Am Großen Gott" on the original cadastral map, still today the place of the cross in Low German is called "Am grauer Guot".
