    The Jakobuskirche

The church, which was originally consecrated in 1679, was struck by lightning during a church service in 1719 and burned down to the outer walls, including the inventory. It was not rebuilt until 1723-24.

The carved altar in cartilaginous Baroque style was originally commissioned for the Glückstädter castle church, but when it was demolished due to dilapidation, donated the Danish King Friedrich IV this altar for the newly built St. James Church. It contains eleven medallion-like image fields, i.a. with scenes from the life of Jesus, which are arranged around the main relief with the crucifixion.

The "royal box", which the grateful Brunsbüttelers dedicated to their sovereign Friedrich IV, is also unique, even if he never came to Brunsbüttel during his reign.

The pulpit, carved in Hamburg in 1723, shows the twelve apostles, the pulpit lids Christ as the Prince of Victory, and also the baptismal font and the baptismal cover with John the Baptist are works of the late Baroque.

Still from the previous church comes the buoy epitaph, which was donated around 1590 in memory of the Brunsbüttel pastor Boethius Boie and his son Klaus, who was the first known Kirchspielsvogt in Brunsbüttel.

Beautiful old brick building, it really fits here. Recommended and feel free to take a look, I have never seen an altar like this before. It's worth it!
