The forest chapel, located on the district road in the direction of Mühlhausen, was handed over to its intended purpose on September 8, 1882 by Pastor Michael Stang after almost a year of construction. The bustling local chaplain, who in his twelve-year term of office in Östringen also initiated the construction of the new parish church and also opened the St. Cäcilia kindergarten with nurses' ward, had generous monetary and material donations from the locals when building the chapel in honor of the Sorrowful Mother of God , but also the Catholics from Mühlhausen, Rettigheim and Eichtersheim. The new building replaced a dilapidated smaller chapel, which probably came from the end of the 17th century. According to legend, the body of a little girl from the Wolf family, who had the original prayer house, named after the local patron St. Ulrich, built in memory of the daughter, was found at the place of worship.
