The St. Katharinen Church in Probsteierhagen

The foundation stone for this clapboard-roofed church, which was consecrated to St. Catherine, was probably laid in 1259. It was originally a simple stone church (granite; see especially the north wall). The church was built repeatedly and expanded and embellished with additions and alterations, especially in the years 1637 to 1659 and 1775 to 1787. A bell tower built in 1624 was cremated by lightning in 1757. The current massive west tower, 40 meters high, was built in 1787 by J.A. Richter built. Today it rings three bells, namely a bell cast in Lübeck in 1750 in the tone es' and two bells cast in Karlsruhe in 1964 in G sharp and b.

The oldest preserved piece of church furnishings is the bell-shaped bronze baptismal font from 1457, adorned with a Golgotha group with John the Baptist, Saint Catherine and Mary with the baby Jesus.

The late Baroque carved altar, which is considered the main work of acanthus baroque in the country, was made by Theodor Allers in 1695 and dominates the choir room in its monumental size. The structure is two-story, without predella and wings, and stands on an old brick strip. Between each two columns we find Peter and Paul.

A beautiful church ... the organ and altar are worth seeing.

A church has stood here since the 13th century.
