In the earlier centuries the territorial rulers offered travelers protection on certain roads for a fee, the so-called escort roads. Weingarten was the junction for the escort roads:Weingarten-Gondelsheim-Bretten
Weingarten-Sinsheim-Eberbach
Weingarten to the Pfinzbrücke near Staffort
At the junction of this escort system, the Weingarten watchtower was built in 1589 as a base for the escort teams. It was also used to observe the neighboring communities and the lower Hardt. The angel relief made of sandstone material was made in 1956 by the sculptor Edzard Hobbing. Today there is a local history exhibition in the tower, which is supervised by the local citizens' association.
