The Brotjacklriegel is - seen from the Danube - with its 1011 m above sea level. NHN Höhe the first larger mountain in the Bavarian Forest. The mountain is located in the district of Freyung-Grafenau and represents a landmark of the Sonnenwald region with the communities Schöfweg, Zenting, Innernzell, Grattersdorf and the market Schöllnach dar.
On the Brotjacklriegel is a television and radio station tower of the Bayerischer Rundfunk and a smaller observation tower of the Bavarian Forest Association.
According to legend, the Brotjacklriegel is named after a baker, the Brot-Jackl, who is said to have hid himself on the mountain in the Thirty Years' War. Presumably, however, the name was only later in surveying work of the French under Napoleon, as due to a misunderstanding of the Bavarian "Broada Jaga bars" (wide Jägerriegel) Brotjacklriegel was written down.
Already in 1839, the pastor and two innkeepers from Langfurth erected the first lookout tower there. In 1924, the current 27 m high construction was built on the mountain.
On the eastern slope of the mountain are above Daxstein overgrown reading stone walls.
From the trail car park "Jackl" above the village of Langfurth, the Sonnenwald adventure trail leads to about two kilometers, with ten stops on which the forest and its inhabitants are presented, to the summit.
