The part of the old town of Backnang that is worth seeing is quite small, but very attractive. Many buildings made of half-timbered and stone are reminiscent of the city's history, which originated in an Augustinian choir monastery privileged by the Pope in 1116. That is why the former collegiate church of St. Pankratius with its partly Romanesque components is also one of the oldest buildings in the city.
The old town of Backnang, lying in an arch of the Murr, is a tourist stop on the German half-timbered street because of its picturesque appearance.
