At low tide, Sipar can be visited without getting your feet wet. It is worth it, as old Roman stones and even Roman tombstones were incorporated into the foundation walls.

      Ruins of Sipar

The so-called Cape Tiola is an archaeological site in Katoro, a tourist settlement in the northern area of the city of Umag in Istria. In this holiday village, right next to the sea, there is the archaeological site of Katoro - Cape Tiola. This ancient place was once part of a large Roman settlement called Sepomaia (Insulae Sepomaia), which is mentioned as early as the Tabula Peutingeriana (1st-4th centuries). The term Sepomaia refers to a large Roman estate (latifundia) stretching from present-day Zambratija through Sipar (Castrum Romanum), Sv. Margarita, Cape Tiola, the Katoro Peninsula, as far as Cape Monterol.

The richness and vastness of this estate are documented today in the numerous archaeological remains of country houses (Roman villas) in this area. The purpose of this Roman estate was economic activity based on agriculture, livestock and crafts. Agricultural activity was based on the production of wine and oil and the cultivation of crops, while animal husbandry was centered on sheep and goats. In terms of crafting, the most important was the production of Tyrian purple, as evidenced by the finding of the numerous murex bowls. Source: kroatieninfo-privat.de

Very interesting island, nice to walk around among the ancient ruins, it is too bad they are not preserved better, or have some additional information available on site. You may encounter some nude archaeologists.
