About Lauf the Lothardenkmal is much easier to reach than about Neusatz and the departure direction Neusatz - Buhl is a welcome reward. Lothardenkmal, Hirschfelsen and Hardsteinkreuz lie in quick succession and one has a nice view here.

Lothar was a previously unimaginably powerful hurricane that swept across western and central Europe on Boxing Day 1999. The strongest gusts were measured in Germany at 272 km/h. In Baden-Württemberg alone, 13 people were killed on the day of the storm. The damage in Germany was estimated at 1.2 billion euros. After barely a quarter of an hour, the hurricane had already subsided.
