The (or also the) high mandling is not an absolute must. No view at the summit, arduous driveway from Oed, everywhere no driving signs including control by foresters / forest owners.

The Hohe Mandling is one of my favorite peaks in the foothills of the Alps. Apart from the notorious foresters, no one on the way, there is no base. The Berndorfer Hut used to stand on the summit, but it has burned down and forgotten.

From the east there are easy access possibilities via forest roads, e.g. over the little Rosenkogel. As a descent, I can highly recommend heading north to the Geyersattel and further to the Waxeneckhütte, very nice single trail, sometimes quite technical and steep with short descents.
