For hikers and cyclists the extraordinary trees are a worthwhile destination. How impressive these giants are in the forest is best experienced on the sun loungers set up there by forest workers. Seen from below, the "mammoths" are even more impressive. That they are in Sulz, is due to the Württemberg King William I. This one was a great nature lover. When mammoth trees were discovered in North America in the mid-19th century, he commissioned his royal building and garden directorate to get the seeds of these California giants.
In 1863 a larger delivery arrived. The seed was sown in 1864 in the Wilhelma in Stuttgart. This resulted in 5000 plants, which were distributed by decree of the Royal Forestry Directorate in April 1866 to the forestry offices throughout Württemberg.
