First efforts to connect the forest to the railway network, there were already in 1867. Of various variants, finally, the construction of a railway with connection to the Weschnitztalbahn in Mörlenbach was chosen. In the spring of 1898, construction began. Between the pond and the forest Michelbach three larger viaducts and two tunnels were needed to run the route in the mountainous landscape on the rise of Kreidacher height. In 1901 the track was opened. The original railway line in the Odenwald led from Mörlenbach to elections.
Today the Überwaldbahn is partially mined.
Since summer 2013 there is a tourist "solar" handcart service from Mörlenbach to Waldmichelbach.
From Waldmichelbach there is today a bike and trail to Wahlen and on to Grasellenbach.
