At 1,215 meters, the Fichtelberg is the highest mountain in the new federal states. The panorama from him is stunning. It extends over the Ore Mountains to the Bohemian Basin.

The weather station belongs to the German Weather Service. It is digitized and no longer occupied all the time. It is a structure clad with wood and fits very nicely into the ridge position.

At the hotel Sachsenbaude with adjoining bus stop the approx. 1.5 km long hiking trail to the big Fichtelberg over the small Fichtelberg starts directly. Highly recommended, a very nice way.

Fantastic in every season. The peace bell rings every Sunday at 4:00 p.m., if you want to listen to it ...

The column used to stand at the old Fichtelberghaus and was moved around 80 m to the south because of the new Fichtelberghaus in 1965

A dreamlike piece of nature up there and with me it was really tingling in the stomach when we went up the chairlift. And thanks to winter tourism, there is plenty of parking available in summer.
    And next door's delicious Becherovka

As a big highlight I can recommend the annual Fichtelberg march. It goes from Chemnitz on foot to the Fichtelberg - 64 km. Unique!

We drive from Chemnitz by bike several times in the year to the Fi.-berg up many routes are possible, from normal roads to the strenuous ways, Reitsteig etc. But who would like to cozier should use the Fichtelbergbahn.

I've only been here in winter so far, but I'll come back in spring / summer. I was told that nature should be especially beautiful then. I'm already looking forward!

I live close to the Fichtelberg ... In winter, many kilometers of groomed trails - great for cross-country skiing.
In summer by mountain bike, beautiful trails but a bit exhausting.
It is not far to Karlsbad in the Czech Egertal, about 100 kilometers by bike there and back, whereby you have to drive back about ten kilometers uphill to go back over the Ore Mountains ridge (900 meters in altitude).

The triangulation of the Kingdom of Sachse took place in the years from 1862-1890, and served the exact geodetic survey. The column dates from 1864. The measurement was based on the Grossenhain baseline. Because of the new building of the Fichtelberghaus in 1965, the column was moved 80 m to the south.
