Place Massena is a prominent landmark in Nice's city center, named in honor of the French Marshal André Masséna, who was born in Nice. The square was built between 1820 and 1830 and has undergone dynamic changes ever since. The "Fontaine du Soleil" (Sun Fountain) and the artwork "Conversation à Nice" (seven illuminated statues representing the continents) are worth seeing. A tram runs across the square without overhead wires to avoid disturbing the architecture.
