The Red Mulde rises on the eastern outskirts of Schöneck at 770 m above sea level. NN. The source is in the ponds at the Meiler hut. The draining Rote Mulde runs in a northeasterly direction and flows into the Muldenberg dam after about 3 km. There it merges with the White Mulde to form the Zwickauer Mulde.
