    Nestled behind the main shopping street in Towcester is this unassuming mound of historic earth. Now turned into a small park area with a spiral path to the top you can get views over the rooftops of the town centre.

    Bury Mount and Water Meadows park (just a couple of minutes North East by bike), won the restoration category at the Museums and Heritage Awards 2011 beating Westminister Abbey which came second.

    The mount is the restored remains of what is thought to be a 12th century motte and bailey fortification. You can find more detailed information here: gatehouse-gazetteer.info/English%20sites/2243.html
