At the Col de l'Iseran, at more than 2,764 meters above sea level, you come close to the giants. This pass is indeed the highest road pass in the Alps. In other words, it is a mythical place for all experienced cyclists! It only exceeds by about ten meters the impressive Italian pass of Stelvio which culminates at 2,758 meters.Appreciate this unique moment and this satisfaction before the beautiful descent which is announced.

  • At 2,764 meters, the Col de l'Iseran is the highest Alpine pass of all. And that is exactly what makes it unique: while you are surrounded by high peaks on many other pass heights, you almost seem to be at eye level with them on the Col de l'Iseran. However, the approach via the north side is only really fun from Val d'Isère. Because up to the ski resort the road is quite busy. Of course, ski tourism has also left its mark on the landscape.

  • Fantastically beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Especially the driveway of Lanslebourg offers unforgettable views of the glaciers of the French Alps.
Fortunately, the restaurant was open and I was able to enjoy my usual French cafe as a reward for the ascent.

  • Every year around the end of June this pass is closed to all traffic except cyclists! Naturally this is the best time to go, there is even refreshments at the top laid on by the resort of Val D'Isere.
