Since 2011, one of the most famous sculptures and landmarks in the Ruhr area has stood on the top of a slag heap in Angerpark in Duisburg: a walk-in roller coaster with the interesting name "Tiger & Turtle".
It is located between Duisburg and Düsseldorf in Angerland, a small stretch of land on the right bank of the Rhine on the border of the Ruhr area and the state capital.

"The magical work of art Tiger & Turtle is enthroned on Heinrich-Hildebrand-Höhe in the Angerpark in the South of Duisburg, with a truly magical spiral path leading to the summit of Heinrich-Hildebrand-Höhe, where the spectacular landmark can be found.
The artwork is the result of a competition of the city of Duisburg in the context of the cultural capital RUHR.2010. The approximately 20-meter-high sculpture was designed in the form of a roller coaster by artist duo Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. With the exception of the looping, it is walkable and offers a view of a great industrial panorama. The title Tiger & Turtle is due to the fact that the sculpture is reminiscent of a tiger in its appearance, but the visitor slowly commits it like a turtle. The materials used, zinc and steel, provide a historical reference to their location, where a zinc smelter was still in operation until 2005.
The heap creates a recreational value in a place that was characterized in the past by heavy industry. The visitor experiences the environment again and again from new perspectives. Especially at night, the work of art can be seen, because then a luminous band of light appears in the sky. Since its opening in November 2011, the walkable rollercoaster sculpture has made enthusiastic headlines around the world. The landmark, visible from afar, was built on a former heap in the south of Duisburg. Anyone who climbs the steps to the looping will be rewarded with a magnificent view. When the weather is good, you can see along the Rhine from Duisburg city center to Düsseldorf.
