Hornburg:
The Hornburg was built about 800 years ago by the Lords of Fautsburg. When in 1399 the last one died from the house Hornberg, already large parts of the property were sold to the Margrave of Baden and the counts of Württemberg. In 1548, the Swabian reformer Johannes Brenz hid as a castle guardian "Huldreich Engster" before the imperial troops at the castle. Subsequently, the castle fell into decay.
1603 Badener sold the castle horn mountain together with the city Altensteig and the house Württemberg. Of the original buildings, only the lower two-thirds of the tower survived.
In 1958, the International Forum "Castle Liebenzell" begins with the reconstruction. Initially, the tower is used as accommodation for the German-French Youth Exchange. French and German pioneers are building an access road out of abandoned narrow-gauge railway material.
In 1972, the Staatsvorstverwaltung established the first of four Waldschulheims in Baden Württemberg. Since then, Waldschulheim Burg Hornberg has been an important environmental education institution in the district of Calw and an out-of-school learning location for schools throughout Baden-Württemberg.
