Opened on June 24, 1911, the 1,240 meter long funicular with a gauge of 1,000 mm has since connected the towns of Erdmannsdorf in the bottom of the Zschopautal and Augustusburg on the 516 m high Schellenberg. It overcomes a height difference of 168 meters, the gradient is on average 13.5% with a maximum gradient of 20.14%. At a speed of 3 m/s (= approx. 11 km/h) the journey takes approx. 8 minutes.
