Great vantage point over the Rhine

Long before the Upper Middle Rhine Valley was declared a World Heritage Site, the viewing point above Sankt Goarshausen captivated writers, painters and photographers. Located about 200 metres above the Rhine, the viewing pavilion offers an impressive panoramic view of the Middle Rhine Valley with the castles Katz and Maus and the ruins of the Rheinfels fortress on the other side of the Rhine. From there, you can also see the sister towns of St. Goarshausen and St. Goar, the Rhine and the ships sailing on it from a bird's eye view. The Loreley rock is visible to the south. The first wooden pavilion was built at the beginning of the 20th century. In the period after the First World War, a bar stood behind the pavilion. Whenever the bar was occupied, a flag that was visible from far away flew at the Dreiburgenblick. In the Second World War, American artillery shells destroyed the pavilion and the bar.
