The old castle of Vichte is a castle in Vichte, in West Flanders.

At the beginning of the 12th century, Goswin, from the house of Petegem near Oudenaarde, near the Fifta or Vichtebeek, received a fief from the Count of Flanders. He became the first lord of Vichte and the ancestor of the noble family "van der Vichte", which would continue to rule the lordship until about 1680.

Goswin van der Vichte set up a residence for himself and a place of worship for him and his subjects. The ground floor of this building, which clearly shows a Romanesque influence, has been preserved and is now used as a basement. It was initially a residential tower on a motte, an earthen mound surrounded by water and accessible via a drawbridge. A second wall closed off the courtyard, which could be reached over a second drawbridge.

The large barn on the south side of the farm was built around 1500, as evidenced by the bricked-in coats of arms of Vichte and Vichte-Wielant. The entrance gate, flanked by two turrets, is older and probably dates from the first half of the 15th century, when Olivier van der Vichte was lord of Vichte. The pigeon tower must also be from this time. The house on the farm was founded in 1763, while the warehouses on the south side date from 1859. Since 1682, the lord of Vichte no longer lived there and the castle and the manor were rented out.

In 1777 the Ph.-Th. de Fourneau, count of Cruquembourg and 30th lord of Vichte, the castle to Anselm-Louis-Joseph Morel, former alderman of Kortrijk. Morel had the castle redone. The beautifully plastered ceilings, among others, date from this period.

Due to financial problems, the very last lord of Vichte, Henri-Theodoor de Fourneau, was forced to sell the castle and its grounds (236 ha) in 1917 to Jacques Meyers from Zandhoven. He himself would never live there, but he left that to the tenant Francies Verhaeghe. He used the farmyard, while the castle itself remained uninhabited for a long time. Presumably from 1853 it was renovated and occupied by the Verhaeghe family.

There were also other buildings and a brewery, but these were badly damaged and demolished in 1918. In the same year the entire domain was sold by the Werve-Meyers family to the Verhaeghe family. The castle was classified as a monument by Royal Decree of 4 May 1973.

The castle is privately owned and inhabited by the Verhaeghe family.
