      In Dresden on the Brühlsche Ufer there are only bronze counterfeits. The "Four Days of the Day" by sculptor Johannes Schilling (1828-1910) originally stood from 1868 to 1908 on the stairs of the Brühlsche Terrasse in Dresden. Due to weather damage, the sandstone sculptures were replaced by bronze casts. King Albert donated the originals to the city of Chemnitz. The sculptures are housed in winter.

        Description

        The morning, with awakening and the morning dew

        Magnificent female figure, the morning star shines in her hair;

        lifts her robe after a good night's sleep and breathes a sigh of relief in the knowledge that she is about to begin the day's work;

        two lovely girls with morning drinks and sandals fastened to her

        Midday, with work and striving

        Noble male figure, head adorned with a radiant crown;

        triumphantly holds up the wreath of glory that was given to him at the height of life;

        a youth stretches out his hand longingly for it;

        next to him a boy with a spade

        The evening, with music and dance

        Strong male figure with vine branches, devoted to pleasure after completing the day's work;

        drinks wine (Bacchus' gift) and listens to the girls playing

        The night, with sleep and dreams

        Noble female figure with a crescent moon as a diadem in her hair;

        spreads her robe protectively around the sleeping boy;

        Morpheus whispers sweet dreams to the sleeping man.
