This chapel is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Flüe (named after the town of Flüeli in the Swiss canton of Obwalden), but he is much better known by the simple name he himself used, Brother Klaus. He lived from 1417 to 1487 and is revered as a hermit, mystic and peacemaker. Brother Klaus' memorial day in the calendar of saints is March 21 (the anniversary of his death). He is the national saint of Switzerland.
