The castle was built in 1234 as a border castle against the Bavarian Burghausen and was once considered the summer residence of the Salzburg bishops. Today the Rupertiwinkel Museum and a tannery museum are located in the castle. A few steps away there is a weather mushroom with a bench above the Burgleitenweg. From here there is a beautiful view of the Rupertiwinkel and neighboring Austria.
