It is the end of the Middle Ages, a period rich in discoveries begins.
In 1536, the Lord of Mirwart decided to build a blast furnace in Marsolle to manufacture iron and immediately hired a master of forges and steelworkers. In fact, there are three interesting resources in this place: water, wood and ore. The blast furnace will be used until 1568.
Loggers, charcoal burners and miners worked near the site. The forest is overexploited. The blast furnace alone consumes several thousand m³ of wood per year.
We use a Walloon technique that revolutionized its time: the "indirect process", or the manufacture of iron in two stages, instead of one. The cast iron geuzes (iron beams containing a lot of carbon) will then be reworked and purified in order to produce quality iron in a refining forge located at the foot of the castle.
