History
The ferry was built in 1945 under construction number 349 at the Aken shipyard and has been in service in Breitenhagen ever since. With a length of 29.38 meters, a width of 7.68 meters, and a draft of 0.52 meters, it has a carrying capacity of 15 tons and can transport up to four cars and 45 passengers.
How it Works
As a non-motorized cable ferry, it is powered by the current of the Elbe. The crossing is achieved by pulling a steel cable stretched across the Elbe. Although the ferry was originally powered by an electric motor, it is currently operated manually due to a defective winch system and ongoing repairs.
Opening Hours
The ferry typically operates from mid-May to mid-October. On weekends and public holidays, it operates from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, it is important to check the current operating hours in advance, as the ferry may be out of service due to staffing shortages or other circumstances.
