The centers of the old Federal Republic of Germany were, among others, the communities of Rennerod in the Westerwald and Herbstein (Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse).

Located directly on the B275 between Herbstein and the Altenschlirf district, there is a large basalt block with the corresponding plaque inscription under a linden tree. Until reunification on October 3, 1990, this was said to have been the center of the Federal Republic of Germany. The WDR children's program discovered this peculiarity in 1978.

Unfortunately, visually it is not a particularly spectacular point, but geographically it is even more so and of course it is also a highlight. Two rustic benches with a table invite you to take a contemplative rest.

The stone is also used as a cache for geocaching. The Andreasweg hiking tour leads past the memorial stone in the Hoppal district, with a view of the sheep pond.
