The abbey was founded by Benedictine monks in the 9th century over a complex built in the Lombard era [1] [2] [3]. It was destroyed by the Hungarians in 922 and rebuilt around the year 1000. In 1438 it was destroyed by the Visconti troops. In 1491 it passed under the jurisdiction of the Abbey of San Benedetto in Polirone di San Benedetto Po and the following year it was rebuilt. In 1796 the monastery was suppressed upon the disposal of the Napoleonic decrees. It currently houses a community of the poor servants of the Divine Providence of Don Calabria.
