Domes, beehives, mushrooms - these are the names of the modernist round houses that can be found at Ustrzycka Street in Warsaw's Okęcie district. They look like Luke Skywalker's house or the Smurfs' huts.
The unusually shaped buildings were built in the 1950s on the initiative of Warsaw scientists. The original plan was to build about 70 buildings according to the design of Andrzej Iwanicki. However, the cooperative's financial problems and the lack of appropriate building materials did not allow this plan to be implemented. Ultimately, only 10 houses were built along Ustrzycka Street: 4 two-dome houses and 6 three-dome houses. The basis for creating each "dome" was a reusable form. Metal reinforcement was placed on it and poured with concrete, thus creating domes with a radius of 3.3 meters. The domes were connected by a simple connector, which was intended to be the center of the house. Interestingly, the specific shape of the buildings was predicted to be problematic. Therefore, dedicated interior furnishings were designed. However, considering how the external appearance of some buildings has changed due to the superstructures, it is very likely that the interiors have also been significantly modernized.
Today, as you can see in the photos, only some dome trees have retained their original fairy-tale form. Several were demolished or incorporated into new buildings.

Very interesting story, but you can see some buildings are getting neglected :(
