Hindenburglay
Viewpoint and refuge
In the middle of the forests of the Briedeler Schweiz hiking area, halfway up the mountain, lies the Hindenburglay viewpoint. A small pavilion sits on the rocky spur that protrudes from the steep, wooded slope of the narrow Moselle bend of the Zeller Hamm. Only the narrow hiking trails provide access to this wonderful spot. We sit in complete silence in the shade of old oak trees and enjoy the view down to the Moselle flowing past with its steep slopes covered in vines and the houses of Briedel crouching in the narrow valley, while a flag flutters gently in the wind above us. The pavilion was built in 1927 by the Eintracht Briedel men's choir and has been maintained by the mixed choir ever since. It serves as a refuge in the center of the hiking trails that were laid out in 1926. It was given the name Hindenburglay in memory of the great Reich Chancellor.
