beautifully laid out village center in Asch

In the center of the village is the Ascher Hüle, which used to be used mainly as a cattle trough and - alongside cisterns, a few groundwater wells and a few field hulls on the district - was an important part of the water supply on the karstified Alb. Asch joined the Albwasserversorgunggruppe III in 1875 and has since been supplied by a pumping station at the Blautopf, meanwhile with groundwater from a well near Gerhausen.

The earliest documented mention of Asch dates back to 1236. The settlement may be much older. The name of the village could have its origin in the tree name ash and indicate a clearing settlement.

The oldest verifiable lords of Asch were the Palatine of Tübingen; in the 13th century the property passed to the Counts of Helfenstein. In 1447, Asch was sold to Count Ludwig von Württemberg. Although the village was under the rule of Württemberg, the majority of the farms were owned by the Blaubeuren monastery at the time.

Asch already had a school around 1580. In addition, the place had its own jurisdiction with the so-called Juppengericht. Despite this certain independence, Asch as a rural settlement has always largely depended on the city of Blaubeuren.
