Saint Anne is the mother of Mary, the mother of God, who is not attested in the biblical texts, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal (that is, not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example in the so-called "Protoevangelium of James". There is no historically reliable knowledge about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories that are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patroness of Anna's Church in Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia), where a piece of her skull is kept as a relic.

In the church calendar, the day of remembrance of St. Anne - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.

In front of the upper gate, outside the town walls on the old town path, the Anna chapel used to stand. We do not know anything specific about the year of construction. However, the Gothic wooden figure of St. Anne, which was located in the chapel, could provide information. Because of the folds of her robe and her facial expression, the youthful curls of Maria and the original coloring, she could have come from the circle of Tilman Riemenschneider (1455 to 1531) or his school. This period of time could also be the time when the chapel was built. Why it was built outside the town walls is a mystery. Perhaps it was already there when the place was surrounded by a wall. There are two possible dates for the construction of this wall: 1461 by order of Elector Dieter von Isenburg or 1514 by Uriel von Gemmingen. The building has experienced moving times, such as the Peasants' War, the Thirty Years' War or the invasion of Napoleon's troops. But merchant trains from Nuremberg and Augsburg, with the Frankfurt Fair as their destination, also passed the chapel. Until 1810 it remained the only building outside the town walls.

Over time, however, the chapel became dilapidated and in 1928 the Stockstadt municipal council decided to demolish it and rebuild it elsewhere. However, the promised construction fell into oblivion.

In 2007 Mayor Lothar Schaffrath found sponsors to build a small new chapel on the Oberwiese. The entire interior of the old chapel has disappeared, except for a small wooden figure representing Saint Anne carrying her daughter Mary on her lap. The baby Jesus who originally belonged to the group was lost. The group of figures is called: "Anna-Selbdritt"

On April 6, 2008, the time had finally come when the auxiliary bishop of Würzburg, Helmut Bauer, blessed the new field chapel including the statue of Anna and the bell on the Oberwiese in the Gersprenztal.

In the new field chapel there is only a re-carved statue of Anna.
