Halde Brockenscheidt with track gauge tower - Waltrop colliery

The Halcken Brockenscheidt is one of the smallest mountain dumps in the Ruhr area, but on our 4-heap tour subjectively the favorite. It has a height of "only" 15 meters above ground, but its highlight is not only the diverse vegetation with u.a. Deciduous trees such as the birch typical of the forest, the sycamore maple, the sallow willow, many woody plantings and plenty of space for spontaneous growth.

From 1000 meters used batten from the mining industry (beam on which a conveyor cage was guided in the shaft) built the Castrop-Rauxeler artist Jan Bormann the "Spurwerksturm" on the highest plateau. From its viewing platform, 12 meters high, you get one of the best views of the heaps in the area - although the Halde Brockenscheidt is one of the smallest.

From the indicated pyramid-shaped installation expects a good view far beyond the eastern Ruhr area, not just on the lying directly to the base Waltrop colliery and the Lüntec Tower ("Colani egg") on former coal miner Achenbach pit 4.

Of the numerous installations on former dumps the "Spurwerksturm" should be one of the most popular for several reasons. Of course, Bormann needed modern metal stairways for accessibility, his actual material wood is the most natural, the material comes from the mining industry to which a reference is to be made - and quite pragmatically, the people who come here can also use the artwork ". Bormann's oeuvre does not only refer to the history of the site, it basically consists of exactly this and allows the visitors not only to look at the work itself, but also wonderful, really worthwhile views of the surroundings.

For road bikes on tough hard 23er tires but only very limited recommended.

Landmark built from old wooden track slats with a viewing platform. Blends in well with the environment. If you visit the old colliery, it is worthwhile to climb the heap and visit the spur tower. Open all year.
