A long, long time ago, a few dinosaurs walked here. Their footprints can still be seen today. A visit here is a must in this area. A lot of information boards invite you to linger.

It is always fascinating to learn more about our world. Here you can see the tracks of the dinosaurs that walked here several million years ago. At that time the Wiehengebirge was not yet unfolded.

When we had a tropical climate 150 million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the roost. In the Upper Jurassic period, at least eleven dinosaurs walked across a temporarily flooded sandbank in what is now the Wiehen Mountains near Barkhausen, leaving their tracks. In the now steeply rising rock face, you can see the imprints of herbivorous dinosaurs and a predatory dinosaur (Megalosaurus). The dinosaur tracks were discovered in this former quarry as early as 1921.
