On the left side of the slope in the Birklersgrund are the ruins of a glassworks (Birkberghütte) at the foot of the Birkberg (480 m above sea level). Because of its special shape, the melting furnace, which was built in 1765 and is almost ten meters long, was also called the "butterfly furnace". The glass factory was founded by large French entrepreneurs. During excavations in 1979, the remains of the wall that are still visible today were uncovered. In a map from 1769, the Birkberghütte is marked as "Schmelz Hütten".Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiesener_Forst
