Since 1997 there has been a chapel on the corner of Akkerstraat and Berendonkstraat, which was built to replace an older chapel (see black and white photo), which was located in the same place. The owner, mr. Marcel Baert, did not like this chapel and moreover it had had its best time. Therefore, it was removed, but a new chapel was built out of respect for the tradition.

    (See black and white photo)
The previous chapel was built during the Second World War. It is said to be a former dovecote which, unusable due to the Germans' prohibition of keeping pigeons, was moored by mr. Van Houcke has been converted into a chapel. During the Second World War, the entire neighborhood went on a pilgrimage to that chapel, which was located at the court of the then owner Jules Van Houcke. Prayers were given for an early end to the war and to be spared the violence of war.

This new chapel, whose niche is currently completely empty, was drawn by Tristan Baert, who was then still an architecture student (and is now an architect). The old chapel still remained in the backyard of mr. Baert stand. Whether this is still the case is not known.
