Saint Andrew, to whom this church in Teltow – in the immediate vicinity of Berlin – was dedicated, is firmly among the twelve apostles whom Jesus Christ called to follow him. Yet in the biblical accounts, he is often somewhat overshadowed by his far more famous brother: Saint Peter. In the Gospels, we find the calling of the two siblings presented in different ways. According to the text of the Gospel of John (John 1:40-42), Andrew is called first (together with a second, but strangely unnamed, disciple) and then announces to his brother Simon (who would later receive the name Peter, meaning "rock," from Jesus) that he has found the awaited Messiah.
The feast of Saint Andrew in the calendar of saints is on November 30th in all major Christian denominations.

The town church of Saint Andreas is the landmark of the city of Teltow. The first field stone church was built at this location around 1230. It and several subsequent buildings were significantly damaged over time by several city fires - in 1515, 1573, 1711 and 1801 - so that today only the masonry dates from the time of construction.
The church was originally built in the style that was common in smaller towns in the Mark Brandenburg in the 13th century as a large fieldstone hall with a wide western tower, which was designed as a defensive tower, and a recessed rectangular choir.
In the great city fire of August 17, 1801, St. Andrew's Church burned down completely. Reconstruction could only begin in 1810.
