The Commando Memorial was built to remember soldiers who fought in WWII. The monument overlooks the Commando Training Depot at Achnacarry Castle.
The memorial was unveiled in 1952 and, with views over Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor, it has become an iconic monument in Scotland. It was designed by sculptor Scott Sutherland.

In the vastness and solitude of the Scottish Highlands, the three larger-than-life soldiers standing on the pedestal are unmistakable. Thus, here, too, we encounter a war memorial, erected in 1952 to commemorate the victims of the Second World War. Such memorials are usually found in villages to remember the men who once lived here and had to leave their families behind. But the specific reason for erecting this memorial here is a former training camp for soldiers, where they were prepared for combat.
