Mild air, bright sunshine - the weather is now inviting you to go out and exercise. A popular destination for joggers, hikers, cyclists or simply walkers has been the Lydia dump for many years. It stands between the Quierschieder districts of Fischbach and Camphausen and the Saarbrücken district of Dudweiler. Many years ago, a lot of money was invested in a heap circular trail, and the local recreation area was upgraded bit by bit. As a result of the reforestation of the heap, young forest areas had already formed, and animals and plants had used the habitat for themselves.But for a good two years now, the picture has been different. The trees have been cleared, and access to the hiking trail on the Camphauser side is currently blocked. “The Lydia dump is to be released from mining supervision. To make this possible, however, the dump must no longer pose any danger. Some work is necessary for this, ”explains Traudel König, press spokeswoman for RAG Montan Immobilien. And she adds: “The slopes of the heap are too steep and need to be flattened. This modeling of the terrain is impossible as long as there are trees on it. That is why we started clearing two years ago. "The removed material is brought to the Geisheck redevelopment area in Heinitz for the recultivation of the redeveloped area. The company has already taken so-called "ecological compensation measures" for interfering with nature. For the felled trees, new ones were planted elsewhere, for example during the renaturation of the Fischbach. Or the company has initiated other nature-promoting measures, such as a grazing project in Fürstenhausen.

In the meantime, the work seems to have been completed, at least the driveway from Camphausen is open again and there are no more barriers.
