Cycling in Suffolk is typified by its low-lying terrain, wide-open farmland, serene conifer plantations and miles of quiet routes and trails to explore. The county’s large North Sea coastline is almost entirely composed of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is a stunning place to spin the pedals for a day or more.
Peaceful roads and trails proliferate throughout the AONB and you’ll find small passenger ferries happy to ship you and your bicycle over watery obstacles. The coastal region is also chock full of wonderful seaside towns, perfect for a lunch stop or an overnight during a longer tour.
Inland, cycle routes in Suffolk have much to offer with towns like Bury St Edmunds and Needham Market providing fantastic bases. Rides seldom include much elevation gain and instead you’ll whiz past picturesque fields, admire morning mist and discover why the painter John Constable found his inspiration here.
