Route Planner

October 20, 2025

Previously, Highlights were represented on the map by sport-specific icons—like hiking, running, or cycling—depending on the activity associated with that place by the user when it was created. For example, a mountain summit might have either a hiking icon or a running icon.

Now, Highlight icons reflect the type of landmark they represent, so you can instantly tell whether you’re looking at a pub, viewpoint, waterfall, or another notable locale.

Sometimes you want to preview a destination along your route in Apple or Google Maps—say, to check the opening hours of a nearby bike shop or read reviews for a local café.

Previously, it took a deep dive to find out where an activity had been recorded. Now, the location is shown directly in your feed on iOS and Android.

This way, you no longer have to worry about seeing your dream route pop up on the feed just to find out after some digging that it’s… well, on a whole different continent.

Decide instantly which routes to save for next time, and which ones to admire from a distance. 🗺️

Your routes are now effortlessly more scenic 🌳

Route Planner

July 30, 2025

As you’re building a new route using the planner, komoot’s algorithm now prioritizes paths with more scenery whenever possible. This means that, for all sports (except road cycling), komoot will include any nearby lakes, forests, and parks in your route—provided they don't prolong your journey too much.

Rest assured, you no longer have to skip the greener paths just to save a few minutes. ⛰️
