The outskirts of Berlin is not only known for its famous lakes, but also countless rivers, streams, brooks, and small creeks. Here and there, quaint rivers wind their way through wide meadows, rustic swamplands emerge and sometimes a narrow stream flows slowly through dense forest. Along many rivers and streams, you will find beautiful paths waiting to be discovered on a hike.
We have selected ten splendid hikes where you can discover the countless tributaries of the Havel and Spree rivers. Erpe, Panke, Löcknitz, Tegeler Fließ, Annafließ or the Nuthe. All of the tributaries around the capital will enchant you with their unique charm and different landscapes. Wide floodplains, quiet forests, quaint moorlands, vast fields and fairytale alder forests await you here. In autumn, the special light bathes the landscape in a mystical atmosphere – a hike in nature couldn't be more beautiful.
Best of all: thanks to the S-Bahn and regional trains, you can accompany the streams on their journeys and start your trip home directly from the end of your hikes. Simply choose your favourite stream and follow its course through Berlin and Brandenburg.
