"You don't need to be an expert or a saint: the desire to leave is enough."

The Way of St. Nilus is a sincere invitation to travel, a thread that runs through Cilento uniting sea and mountains, silent villages and places charged with memory. Following in the footsteps of Saint Nilus of Rossano, a 10th-century Byzantine monk, the path winds for more than 100 kilometers from Sapri to Palinuro, touching thirteen villages, hermitages, ancient mule tracks and landscapes that alternate between the light of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the shade of chestnut trees. It is a journey of nature and spirituality, but also of encounters, voices and flavors.

Stage after stage, the walk crosses symbolic places of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park: the WWF Oasis of the Bussento Caves, the Cascate dei Capelli di Venere, the Hermitage of San Michele, the alleys of Rofrano and Futani, up to the promontory of Capo Palinuro, where the sea reopens as horizon and promise. Walk among water paths and forests, among stone and wind, rediscovering an authentic Cilento, bright and true.

From a practical point of view, the Way of St. Nilus is an itinerary accessible to anyone with a minimum of training and desire for slowness. Departure is from Sapri train station, easily reached by regional and high-speed trains from Naples, Salerno or Milan.
After about 100 kilometers of walking and eight stages, the arrival in Palinuro marks the return to the sea: from here, a bus stop at the port allows you to return comfortably to Sapri, or alternatively you can consider a ferry.

The route has moderate elevation changes, alternating paved sections with dirt roads and ancient paths, with no particular technical difficulties. Along the way you will find fountains, water points and scattered accommodations, where the welcome preserves the authenticity of small villages. The Way of St. Nilus does not ask to arrive: it invites to walk.
To rediscover, step by step, silence, wonder and lost time.
