The majesty of a cascading waterfall, the tranquillity of a stroll through a wooded river valley or the beauty of a shimmering lake – it’s always a joy to combine hiking and water.

The Swabian Alb is the perfect place to escape into nature this summer. Rocky trails, riverside hikes, stunning views and water-rich Highlights await

The gorgeous low mountain range, with its famously picturesque plateau, extends to over 200 kilometres (124 mi) in length across Baden-Württemberg. Bizarre rock formations, dense forests and vibrant meadows make the Swabian Alb a true hiking paradise.

In this Collection, we present some of the Swabian Alb’s most beautiful hiking trails involving water. You can expect refreshing dips in the reservoirs, shaded trails along green river valleys, majestic views from rocky outcrops onto the Danube and restorative Kneipp spa experiences. The seven Tours provide a real insight into this beautiful landscape, leading you through its different regions to places of natural splendour and the occasional surprise. On one Tour, a whole river disappears!

The routes are between 8 and13 kilometres (5 and 8 miles) long and there’s never more than 360 metres (1,200 ft) of elevation gain. There’s something for everyone, from a gentle stroll through the Lonetal, to the more challenging ascent to the Rutschenfelsen.

What’s certain is that you’ll return invigorated and refreshed from your hiking experiences. See you on the Swabian Alb!

If you want to enjoy every single view to the fullest, you should plan more time - around four hours instead of the three hours stated

The Fohlenhaus rock formation in the Lone Valley is a prehistoric relic, created from the reefs of the Jura Sea and petrified into rock over millions of years. It is clearly visible on a meander of the Lone river and the beautiful rest area next door invites you to barbecue and play.

On this route, you'll experience something unique in the world: Between Immendingen and Möhringen, the Danube simply disappears from the surface. On approximately 155 days a year – in spring and autumn – the river sinks completely, allowing you to hike through the riverbed dry-footed.
