In this collection, I present to you the second part of the Apennine Cycle Route from Assisi in Umbria to Scalea in Calabria. 1,113 kilometers that run along the mountain ridge, through the great mountain ranges such as the Sibillini, Gran Sasso, Laga, Majella and Pollino, as well as through many small rural and mountain communities.

This is a challenging tour with stages that almost always have a positive altitude difference of over 1,000 meters. I therefore recommend that you start with a minimum amount of training in your legs so that you can enjoy the ride better. You can tackle the route with any bike: a gear shift with light gears is certainly helpful on the steepest climbs, but not decisive; where you can no longer ride, you simply get off the saddle and push. Of course, you can also use an e-bike. There are charging stations along the route, which you can find under this link komoot.com/de-de/collection/2430145.

Summer is the best time to cycle the Apennine Route, as the days are long and you can swim in the lakes and rivers you encounter. Many accommodations are also only open seasonally, so you have more choice and can more easily find a bed and food. Keep this in mind if you want to ride the route at other times of the year. In winter, some sections of the tour may be closed due to snow, so you may need to adjust your route accordingly.

Assisi and Scalea are served by Intercity and regional trains that also take bicycles (note: your bike also needs a ticket). Along the route there are several train stations that allow you to modify the stages at will. I have divided the tour into 16 stages so that I have the right ratio of kilometers and altitude differences for each section.

Now all you have to do is pack your bike, swing onto the saddle and set off to discover one of the most beautiful regions of Italy: the Apennines!
