The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising and Berlin is shaking off its winter blues. Spring is finally here. After the cold season, your feet will be hankering to get back out into nature. There are plenty of places to witness spring’s awakening, from the city’s large gardens and castle parks to the forests, stream valleys and meadows, where thousands of flowers are just waiting to burst into colour.

In this Collection, we‘ve selected some of Berlin and the surrounding region’s most wonderful gardens, places that are renowned for their design flair, variety or scenic charm. The Sanssouci Palace Park in Potsdam is one of the highlights, while the Gardens of the World in Marzahn is completely different, but no less appealing. If, on the other hand, you prefer to wander through forests and other more secluded landscapes, there are the perfect Tours here for you too, such as a visit to the wild horses in Hobrechtsfelde or the exquisite moorland near Chorin Monastery.

Best of all, all the Tours are easily accessed by S-Bahn or regional railway. The journey alone will be a wonderful experience, as you watch the awakening spring landscapes flash by.

The Peacock Island is picturesquely located in the middle of the Havel. At the end of the 18th century, King Friedrich Wilhelm II had a fairytale castle built on the small island. Between Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten and the Berlin district of Friedrichshagen, the Erpe flows through the Erpetal, which is surrounded by wide meadows. The area has been a nature reserve since 2003 and attracts city dwellers to long walks with its almost untouched meadows and small forests.

Rustic wooden walkways in a mystical moorland, fragrant meadows with lush green grasses and delicate flowers in shades of pink, innocent white and bright yellow, idyllic lakes and a natural Kneipp bath along the way. Before it ends up in your cooking pot in the form of oil or spices up your crisp salad, it beautifies the fields around the capital and makes them shine in brilliant yellow: we are talking about rapeseed. The extensive Great Tiergarten in the middle of Berlin is a wonderful place to welcome spring. Snowdrops bloom here very early, then bluebells spread out and whole fields of daffodils shine in the sun. The first trees start to bloom and develop their leaves and finally the scent of lilies of the valley
